40k 6th Edition

So the title of this post is not that descriptive. You know I am going to address 6th edition and probably assume it is going to be about the rules and I am going to bash them like so many other people are doing right now. Well you would be partly correct. I am going to talk a little about the new rules but there will be no bashing from me.

People seem to hate what they don't understand. With 6th edition in its infancy, people, mostly those on the internet who decide their opinion is worth something, have not had enough time to play, evaluate, and make an educated statement regarding this edition. I have played about 15 games myself and still have no clue what types of armies are going to be competitive. I can tell you that within those 15 games I have played (and played against) a variety of armies and army types and they all seem to perform well.

Daemons: I want to give GW a big round of applause. I spend a great deal of time in forums checking rumors. While almost everyone was certain we would be getting plastic plague bearers, the addition of new unit choices and a revision/addition to the daemon codex seemed to go unnoticed until the white dwarf was released. I hope that this becomes a trend. This was all a big and complete surprise.

Over the past several weeks my attitude towards GW has done a complete 180. Despite all the bitching and moaning we do as players you have to give it to them. In reality they are a fantastic miniatures company and seem to be getting their act together. Thank you GW!

Forgeworld brings us the Horus Heresy?

Thats right gamers, Forgeworld, the people who bring us such awesome things that put regular Games Workshop stuff to shame, are now bringing us the Horus Heresy as a series of campaign books.

Hopefully they will give us rules for Primarchs and awesome models for them as well.

I am so excited for this that I am pissing blood!

You wouldn't like me when I'm angry

On this wonderful Wednesday night I have finally decieded to take a crack at an 1850 6th ed list. I have decided to go back to playing black templars disguised as my excorsist for a while. after much slaving over a hot keyboard I have come up with the list below.

Howdy Folks.   I’ve got one more list I’d like to put out there for consideration.    This time we’re working over my Imperial Guard.   The below list is an updated variations on my 5th Edition mixed Foot/Mech lists, that I’m hopeful will be okay in 6th.   I’ll be posting some comments and thoughts on the lists below.

Command Squad w/ 4x Plasma & Astropath

There Is No Primarch But Russ, And The Long Fangs Are His Prophets

Well everybody.   After a fair bit of crunching here is my revised 1850 all comers list for Space Wolves.  For the moment I’m keeping chunks of the core design intact until I can get some serious playtest games in to figure out what is and isn’t working.   For the moment this is designed as a pure Space Wolves force, to see how well the codex can stand on its own in the new edition.  Also, because I’m certain that some tournaments are going to ban allies on principle just to keep shenanigans down.

6th ed recap

Well 6th ed has been out for 4 days now and there are all kinds of changes. However most of them have not been bad,  i have played 2 games so far and they have been a lot of fun. Below is the best rules recap i could find that helps those of you (like me) who are still waiting on your rule book to arrive by mail (thank you GW for being extremely slow).

this is going to hurt......

6th Edition - Shooting Vs Assault Preliminary Analysis

So, after a full read on the codex and a couple of test games here are some initial thoughts I’m having on the 6th edition balance between shooting and assaulting.
Per general internet wisdom shooting was better than assault in 5th Edition.  Based on my read of the new rules the gap has grown wider now that we've moved to 6th Edition.  If shooting was not formerly better than assault it most certainly is now.  Evidence following.
I’ve listed many of the rules changes and how I feel they impact the balance between shooting and assault.  These don’t cover all the rules changes that could affect things, but they cover the majority of the big ones.  Or at least the ones I can think of right now.

6th Edition Midnight Release/5th Edition Last Hurrah

The Rusty Scabbard held an event on the night before 6th Edition was released! Players gathered to play 1000 point lists from 5th edition as a last hurrah and farewell. We had a great time and played up until midnight when the 6th edition rulebook was finally available for purchase! These are some pics from the night, some of the battles and people receiving their book!
